While you may be able to organize a conference in one large room if you use dividers and the like, this is not ideal. Look instead for an event space with several rooms so you can separate the lectures, meet-and-greet, and dining aspects of your conference. It will make it easier for your attendees to figure out where they need to be, and separate rooms will also cut down on the noise so that everyone can hear what's going on.
Chances are, you will be offering your attendees some sort of lunch or brunch while they're on-site. It's always easiest if the event space you rent has a dedicated catering staff or coordinates with caterers in the area. This way, you don't have to do as much planning when it comes to the food. The event center's staff can prepare and serve it, allowing you to focus on other aspects of the event.

You don't want your attendees to have to walk a mile down the road to reach the event center, and you don't want anyone to get parking tickets because they had to park on the street and did not read the signs properly. Covered parking is the best since your attendees will stay dry if it's raining, but an open lot is not bad if it's located conveniently.
Staff On Site
Look for an event space that will designate a staff member or a few staff members to be on-site during your conference. This way, if you have any questions or issues, from finding outlets to figuring out how the lights work, someone who knows the space will be around to help you solve those quandaries.
