About Me

Never Be Afraid to Try New Restaurants and Cuisines

When I was growing up, my mother meat and potatoes for dinner each night. Once a week, we would order pizza from the same pizza place. I never even tried Mexican food until I was 18 years old! I loved it and that led me on a quest to try all of the different types of cuisines out there and I have to say that I love almost all of them. When trying a new cuisine, I don't always love the first dish I try, but I find that after trying a few dishes, I find one that I fall in love with. I think that trying new food frequently can be a great adventure that adds some zest to your life. I plan to post about many foods I have tried and plan to try on my blog, so come back soon!

Delectable Light Options To Savor At A Mexican Restaurant

At Mexican restaurants, it's easy to fill up on chips and salsa. But if you're looking for something more substantial yet still light, there are plenty of options. Here are some light meals to savor at a Mexican restaurant.

Quesadillas

Quesadillas are a traditional Mexican dish that can make an excellent light option. A quesadilla comprises two lightly toasted tortillas filled with cheese and other ingredients, such as meats, vegetables, or beans. They can be served as a meal or a snack, often accompanied by delicious toppings such as salsa, guacamole, sour cream, or olives.

The best part about quesadillas is that they can offer plenty of flavor without being overly filling. The cheese melts together with other ingredients to create a creamy and savory taste experience. Restaurants often serve different types of quesadillas made from different types of cheese and filled with different ingredients for added variety.

To ensure your quesadilla is as light as possible, carefully choose what goes inside the tortilla. Meats like shredded chicken or steak should be avoided since they tend to add unnecessary fat and calories to the meal. Instead, opt for fresh vegetables such as bell peppers and mushrooms and white cheeses like mozzarella or ricotta. This combination will still give you that great cheesy flavor while also providing plenty of nutrients in the form of vitamins and minerals in the vegetables.

Fajitas

Fajitas are a classic Mexican dish that makes for a great light choice when eating out. They are usually served on a sizzling hot plate with grilled meat or seafood, bell peppers, and onions. Fajitas are accompanied by warm tortillas and colorful toppings such as pico de gallo or guacamole. The main ingredients in fajitas are protein-rich and can be prepared in various ways to suit your tastes and dietary needs.

When ordering a light fajita, it's best to opt for lean meats such as chicken or fish, which are both low in fat and calories. Also, choosing grilled meat instead of fried is a great way to keep the dish light and healthy. Additionally, adding plenty of vegetables will help increase the fiber content of the meal while simultaneously cutting down on calories and fat. You can keep the toppings light using salsa instead of crema, or getting sour cream can also help reduce calorie intake while still providing flavor.

Fajitas are also well-suited for those watching their carb intake since they come with tortillas that can easily be replaced by low-carb alternatives such as lettuce wraps or slices of bell peppers. This way, you can enjoy all the delicious flavors of fajitas without having to worry about consuming too many carbs.

With these tips in mind, you can enjoy a healthy and tasty meal at your favorite Mexican restaurant. Visit a local Mexican restaurant for more options.
